Control Your Mind

If you want to control your mind then you are on a wrong track.It is impossible to control the mind.Then what is the solution.Let's think upon it.Our mind is programmed to think continuously. Even when we are asleep our mind keeps on working.So every effort to control your mind will be useless.It is like trying to change the flow of river against the current. And why do you need to control your mind.Can you stop your heartbeats even for a second or can you stop your intestine to digest the food or have you ever thought to stop breathing for an hour.No we cannot stop them as all these processes are vital.In the same way it is quite foolish to think that we can stop our mind.

So what can we do...We can manage our thoughts.By changing the way we look at the things we can change the thought process of our mind.Our mind is like a sky and the thoughts are like clouds. When our mind is clear of all the useless thoughts then only the sun of enlightenment can be seen.So there are some strategies which can be useful to clear the cloud of useless thoughts.

1. Channelize your thoughts

 A disciple once asked his Guru" how can I find god"? Guru said "come to meet me on the river". Disciple came to meet the guru when he was taking bath in river.Guru called him in and as soon as the disciple reached near him he caught the disciple by the neck and dipped his head under the water.Disciple couldn't breathe under water but gurus grip was so strong that he couldn't get his face out of water.after few moments he gathered all his strength and tried hard to get out and when he got his face out he was gasping for the breath.Guru asked him "when your face was in water what you were thinking"?Disciple said "I was not thinking at all.All my effort was to somehow get out of the water".Guru said "this is the way.When there is the matter of life and death your mind will stop.Similarly if you want to get successful you should keep only one thing in your mind and forget everything else.When your thirst to meet god is so strong  then only god will appear in front of you".
This story tells us that when all our thoughts are channelized towards a particular objective then our mind stops useless chattering.So you need to be focused towards a particular goal,then only your mind will start following you.

2.Practice silence

 Once a disciple asked Gautama Buddha "how to keep our mind silent". Buddha didn't answer him and asked him to bring a bucket full of clean water from the river.It was rainy season and the water of river was full of mud.When he filled the bucket he found that water was too dirty.He kept the bucket aside for few minutes and found that all the dirty particles settled down in the bottom and water became clear.He came dancing and said to Buddha that he has got the answer.Once you allow yourself to sit silent for some time all the useless chattering will slowly stop and you will find that your mind has become silent.But it will take time and you will have to practice silence with patience continuously for few months.

3. Develop positivity

Your mind has the capability to multiply whatever it gets.If you feed your mind with negativity it will multiply it.So try to develop positive experiences in and around your life.Be in company of positive people,read nice books,listen good and soothing music,Sit for meditation. This will increase the positive energy and once the seed of positivity is sown on the earth of mind it will soon become a tree with fruits of positivity.

4. Watch your thoughts

Imagine that you are just watching your thoughts from a distance.Whenever a thought comes in your mind,just watch it without making any judgement.Soon you will find that frequency of thoughts is decreasing and you will clearly observe a gap between two strings of thoughts.This is very effective tool to increase peacefulness of your mind.

5. Acceptance

The best way to control your mind is not to control at all.You just need to accept it and it will automatically stop chattering.Accept every thought which comes into your mind.As long as you will try to stop your mind it will go on becoming more noisy.But as soon as you stop opposing your thoughts.They will automatically vanish and it will be a great fun to watch.then your mind will think only when you want it to do so.Just try the acceptance and miracle will start happening in your life.
