This is the story of a hospital. In this hospital, there was a ward of seriously ill patients who were on the last stage and about to die. In this ward, there was a window in the last corner and the patient on this bed used to praise his luck every day. When he got up, he said oh my goodness. how beautiful is the morning, how elegant is the sky, how marvelous are the birds. Other patients felt envious to this patient. Whenever the patient on this bed died another one was shifted to this bed and he also started chanting the same words. The other patients prayed for the death of the patient on that bed. The patient who was on the other corner was most unhappy as he had to wait longer than others. Finally, the day came when he got the chance to be shifted on the bed in front of the window. He felt very happy and the first thing he did after shifting, was to open the window. He was shocked as he opened the window. There was a wall in front of the window and nothing of the outside world was visible through it. There was no sky, no sun, No birds...But he couldn't tell this to others that he got fooled. So he also started chanting the same things- How beautiful is the sky, the birds, the sun...
The above story reveals the main cause behind all unhappiness in this world and the cause is that everyone thinks others are happier than him/her. In fact, everyone has his/her own problems, but we don't accept our life as it comes. we always want to become like others and others want the same.
This expectation to become happy is the cause of unhappiness. If we start accepting our life as it is our sorrow will end. Even the richest person on this planet is not happy. He may say "I am having everything, I worked hard and achieved success, my life is perfect." He is also befooled by others like the patient in the hospital, but he can't tell this to others. So he hides his unhappiness. He will never tell that even after achieving everything he is empty from inside. All the accomplishments and hard work failed to satisfy him. Other ones look at him and continue to struggle to become like him. Whole life we keep on running to become more successful, More rich, More powerful but in the end we get nothing except death. Money can not purchase love, happiness, and joy.
So if you want to be happy you need to accept your life as it comes. Don't compare your life with others as this comparison brings misery. Bhutan is the smallest country in this world. The people of Bhutan are not having all the facilities and money like other countries, but Bhutan is a topmost country in the world happiness index. Bhutan is the happiest country in this world. They are happy because they are connected with nature. They don't have the stress of competition. They are not taking part in the rat race. They live in harmony with nature. They help each other, they don't let greed destroy their culture. They have limited expectations from life. Hence they are happier than the richest countries in the world.
George Bernard Shaw has said, "there are only two types of tragedies in this world, One is you don't get what you want and the other is you get what you want."
So if you want to live a happy and fulfilled life, Drop all the expectations and egos from your mind and start enjoying wherever you are and whatever you have.
