Gestures are an important part of any speech. When you are giving a presentation not only your mouth but your whole body speaks.Your body language, eyes, face expressions,Movement,Hands, etc. support you to speak and hence it is very important to learn nonverbal communication. In this post, we are talking about hand gestures.
It is a proven fact that visuals attract people more than voice. People can easily connect with your topic and understand it more by gestures than words. Simply speaking without any movement seems very monotonous and boring. Hand gestures generate interest in your audience and they remember you for a longer time.
There are no fixed rules about hand gestures as it depends on your personality. Gestures automatically come when you become confident through practicing a lot.when you are confident enough your body becomes open and automatically hands start moving with your words, However initially you can try some gestures consciously to make your presentation interesting.
1.Using fingers for Number- Whenever you talk about any number use your fingers to point it out. For example "I would like to explain three benefits of using this formula"Show three on your finger.
2. Showing the importance of any issue- You can use both your hands to point out how much importance any issue holds. You can join your finger and thumb for little importance. Use your thumbs-up sign to show the excitement for any matter.
3.Emotions- You can keep your hand over your chest to show the emotional connection. You can join both your hands to show sympathy to anyone. You can raise your hands to encourage your audience.
4. Pointing towards groups- You can point out towards two different groups by pointing one hand towards one group and another hand towards another group.
4.Growth or decline- Whenever you move your hands up slowly vertically it shows growth and vice versa
5. Openness-When your hands are at a 45-degree angle with palms facing upwards it is the sign of openness and honesty.
These are a few examples of hand gestures. You can develop your own gestures which suit to your personality. As I said before it comes to you naturally as you gain more experience. The most important thing is that your hands should flow freely with your words without any sign of artificial or forced movement. So practice and prepare a lot to become perfect
