A man in half shirt and simple pants is known for his simplicity and passion for work. Yes, we are talking about Mr. Manohar Parrikar. His full name was Manohar Gopalakrishnan Prabhu Parrikar. Manohar Parrikar took his last breath on 17/03/19. He was an IIT alumnus in mechanical engineering. UIDAI Head Mr. Nandan Nilekani was his batchmate. He was former chief minister of goa as well as defense minister in the present government. His life is a source of inspiration for every politician. Here are some facts which makes him different.
1. He always used Public transport. He always traveled in economy class in an airplane. He used to pay his cellphone bills from his personal account.
2. After many years of becoming CM of goa, he didn't avail CM house. People often saw him on his scooter.Even in the marriage of his son, He was seen in a half shirt, pant and sandle.
3. He was a workaholic. Even in his old age, he used to work for 16 to 18 hours per day. During the surgical strike, he didnt sleep for the whole night.
4. He is the man behind successful rafale deal and modernization of indian armed forces. He also implemented one rank one pension scheme for soldiers.
5. He was called Mr. Clean of goa because during his tenure as CM he eliminated illegal mining racket, suspended and canceled licenses of illegal traders and corrupt government officials.
6. He never let his personal problems affect his job. He lost his wife just after one year of becoming the CM.His teenage sons were raised by himself as a single parent but it never affected his work. People have seen him working with saline on his nose.
7. He was awarded CNN IBN person of the year in the field of politics in 2012.
8. Even during his last days, he used to work from his hospital. He was taking meetings in his hospital ward even in such a critical condition.
9. Doctors have said that they never saw him disheartened during his treatment. He said that he wants to serve the nation until his last breath.
10. dr. Jagannath who was treating him says that he knew about his fate but still kept smiling. He said, "I will always remember him as a courageous man who kept fighting till the end with a smiling face".
All these facts show that he was a great human being. His demise is a huge loss for the whole nation. People like Manohar parrikar are rare on earth. We thank him for his selfless work for the country. May his soul rest in peace.
