I would like to share a folktale with you. There was a farmer who lived with his wife and son in a village. One day his wife fell ill and died. The man had to remarry as the son was too small. His second wife took good care of the house and treated the son as his real mother. She gave birth to three more sons.
As time passed the man grew old and died one day. The elder son took the responsibility for the home. He soon filled the space of the father. He was a laborious man and was respected by the villagers. He was strong and courageous and purchased more land and became a rich man soon. He loved his brothers and they all were living happily.
Soon many villagers became jealous of them and they started conspiring against him. They told his brothers that your stepbrother will not give you a single penny and will take over all your property. Your mother also trusts him.all three brothers became afraid and told their mother that you have a blind faith in the elder brother and he will show his real face one day. Mother told them to not worry and she would find a way to get rid of him.
One night when the elder brother was sleeping outside the house, mother started shouting "snake....snake"..Brother got up and asked where is the snake. She told "when you were sleeping your mouth was open and snake entered into your stomach through your mouth. Now you have a snake in your belly."It was shocking for elder brother.he became too afraid. He thought that a snake, which is alive in his stomach can bite anytime and he is going to die. He stopped taking interest in daily chores. He became so depressed that he shut himself up in his room. He even stopped taking food. Slowly he became so week that he found himself unable to walk and talk.
Villagers were waiting for this moment. They slowly started encroaching his fields. Other three brothers were not experienced and they were too weak to stop the villagers. In a few days, they lost all their land and left only with the house in which they lived.
Now they realized the importance of the elder brother. They went to their mother and started crying.they said that they didn't realize that big brother was the real strength of the house. Mother said "don't worry.he is still the strength of the house. The brothers asked in bewilderment" but how. Big Brother has almost finished his life. Mother assured them that she will bring him back.
Next morning mother stood in front of the elder brother's room and shouted again "Snake...Snake"...Elder brother came out and asked where is the snake. Mother said "you were asleep with open mouth. The snake came out of your stomach through your mouth and went out." This was the moment of relief for the brother.
He again became full of life. He came out with confidence and within a few days took back all his land from the villagers. They lived happily ever after.
The story tells us that we live with a lot of doubts and worries which are just like that snake. They don't exist, but they destroy our confidence. So we all need to get rid of all those limiting beliefs and live our life to its fullest potential.
