Anxiety is inevitable and everyone has to deal with it before the performance, however, if you are well prepared and confident about the topic you will feel less pressure. Anxiety can be made an asset instead of a liability. Here are few tips to win over the nervousness.
1. Practice some breath exercises- Just taking a few deep breaths before hitting the stage release your stress and it is a well-tested trick used by almost every good speaker all over the world.
2. Turn your anxiety into excitement- Don't try to think a lot. Close your eyes for a moment, look within yourself and give positive suggestions to your mind. Think of yourself as rocking the stage and enthralling the audience. This will make you excited about your presentation.
3. Be yourself- We feel nervous because we don't want to face embarrasment.when you are on the stage be natural. Don't try to act like a different species. Just try to remain the same person you are of the stage. Just talk as if you are talking to a group of your friends. In this way, you won't have to imitate or act like others and you will be able to deliver your own thoughts properly.
4. Meditate- On the day of presentation sit for 20 minutes in silence. Relax your body and calm your mind. Keep your mind silent and think only about your topic. Meditation relaxes your body and mind and develops positive energy which helps you in tough situations.
5. Reach before time- You need to be there before time as it will give you time to get comfortable and relaxed before the presentation.
6. Avoid caffeine and drink citrus juice- Many people think that caffeine will boost energy but actually, it increases anxiety. Take citrus juice instead as it is helpful in maintaining hypertension.
7. Don't talk too much- Try to remain silent and calm before the presentation. If you talk to people too much you may get distracted and it will increase nervousness. Before 15 minutes of starting the speech switch off your mobile phone and try to focus on your topic
